Metrics
The Teacher Excellence Initiative will have nine levels of effectiveness, and where teachers fall within these levels will be determined based on three performance measures or metrics:
- Performance (50%)—those measurable indicators that describe how well a teacher does his or her job. The focus is on instructional practice, planning and preparation, classroom management, and professionalism. This will count for a certain percentage of a teacher’s evaluation.
- Student achievement (35%)—student achievement results related to proficiency levels, academic growth, and student performance on district and state common assessments. Student achievement will count for a certain percentage of the evaluation.
- Student survey (15%)—student survey results obtained from a teacher’s or school’s students regarding the learning environment. This will count for a certain percentage of the evaluation.
